I'm looking for a gamepad to make my Mac game playing experience, more like my consoles, and don't really know where to start, because of all the different options, and possibly compatibility issues. On Mac OS X, both Hotline Miami 1 and Hotline Miami 2 have issues with the mouse cursor escaping the game screen and clicking other graphical elements, so you repeatedly fail a boss fight because the game has you click the Dock or Menubar instead of the bottom or top of the screen. Which sucks, because otherwise a mouse and keyboard are overall fairly accurate. I only resort to gamepads when a keyboard + mouse setup are great fail (Hotline Miami), or when playing 2D platformers. I love Apple keyboards for coding, but the arrow keys are way too tiny for comfortable 2D gameplay.
