Unfortunately the Apple review system won't let me paste links, but if you google 'rtl8153 driver update time' the first link (in my search results) takes you to a download page. Version 1.0.15 was crashing, and version 1.0.16 (released Nov 16 2016) has the fix.

This combo may not be elegant, but it gives me full gigabit speed.

I love that the MAC address is printed on the bottom so it can easily be registered for use on enterprise networks. My only complaint is that the adapter runs a little warm under full load, but this is because of the active circuitry inside that relies on passive cooling. Long story short, if you're going to be sitting in bed with your Mac in your lap, just use wireless.

Very very nice. The only issue is if you use a gigabit ethernet adapter connected to the display, it tops out around 350 Mbps due to the ports only being USB2 capable. The 5K monitor (TB3) does not have that limitation. More (Read full answer).
