I have a VCD disk that plays fine in a stand-alone DVD player, but I'm having trouble getting it to play on my iBook and eMac. I'm using OS 10.2 so Quicktime won't play the file. I tried VLC and it does play the file but I cannot get the forward/back controls to work on either machine, despite saving and re-saving the preferences several times (and trashing the pref files.) Has anyone else experienced this problem with VCL? I'd also like to know if there's a way to convert Quicktime files to VCD.

I have been using QT 6.3, but I just downloaded QT 6.5.1. Thanks for any help. I have been using QT 6.3, but I just downloaded QT 6.5.1. Thanks for any help. Click to expand.I have Toast 5 and it works fine to create VCD disks. I have run into an odd problem, however. When I create Quicktime files with EyeTV, I can save them to VCD using Toast, but if I do any editing of these files, Toast will no longer accept them to burn to VCD.

It says the files have unacceptable MPEG content. This doesn't happen with other kind of QT files that I have - they can be edited and still be dropped into Toast. The EyeTV QT files have the same creator and file types as other QT files but they appear to be MPEG files.

That's what they're described as when I drop them on Toast. The other QT files that I drop on Toast are converted to MPEG by Toast before it will accept them. I found a way to edit the EyeTV files in iMovie, but this is a time consuming and complicated procedure that requires audio and video to be separated and converted before iMovie will accept them and the video quality takes a real hit when exported to VCD. Too much fuss for simple editing such as splitting and combining files and the final product is noticeably worse than the QT file I started with. I found something called mpgtx, which works with the EyeTV QT files (i.e.

Leaves them in a form that Toast will accept for VCD), but it's not an easy editing tool. It doesn't offer visual editing - you have to do it almost by trial and error based on file sizes or time codes. I also tried BTV Pro, which has the ability to export a movie to VCD, but again it wouldn't work with EyeTV files.

I know QT Pro has an editing function, but I'm wondering if it too will choke on the EyeTV files. I'd be interested in hearing if anyone has successfully edited EyeTV files with QT Pro and converted them to VCD. The EyeTV program itself has a simple cutting function but it's not very fine tuned and it won't splice clips together.
